Anonymous asked: I didn't realize that there was a public traffic feed on your blog until I scrolled all the way down. I love this blog because your words help me heal so much. But the traffic thing really scares me. I feel like my cover has been blown or my secrets out or someone might find me. I don't know your reasons for putting it there, and I know you would never want to intentionally hurt people, but maybe you could get statcounter instead? that way only you will see it?

Hey! I’ve written about the traffic thing in this blog’s About page. I added it because on Reasons You Shouldn’t Fuck Kids, the blog which inspired this one, i’d sometimes read the posts and feel very lonely, only to notice the traffic feed and realize that many other people cared about this issue and were reading right alongside me.

I promise that the widget does not collect any information beyond the country of origin and the referring link (whatever you clicked on to get here, if applicable). This is all basic info that every website collects anyway, it’s just presented there for people to see. None of it should be enough to personally or directly you. Sometimes the traffic counter does report things like facebook referrals or search engine referrals, but the original link is often totally obfuscated beyond anything that could tie to you.

If it still makes you uncomfortable, you can go to the “real time view” link at the bottom of the widget, and click on “remove your IP” at the top. All entries from your computer will be erased.

I have written about this before, and I’m still conflicted about it.  I feel like it is important to help people feel less alone, but because of this blog’s subject matter, there are always a few creepy people who end up here by searching for certain keywords. But again, none of what is collected is enough to reveal who you are or identify you. You are safe here, I promise.
